Phoenix Park Picnic Cluster

A collaboration between furniture designers Simon Doyle and Adrian Coen resulted in the design and manufacture of the Picnic Cluster, commissioned by the Office of Public Works. The design re-imagines the traditional picnic bench, creating a more accessible space for picnickers to gather and interact. It was both inspired by universal design principles, and also a sensitive response to the beautiful setting of the Phoenix Park. It was unveiled on the 30th of July 2016 as part of the Commemorative Avenue on the Furze Road by President Michael D. Higgins.

Materials; 200 year old native Oak, from the Phoenix Park, harvested and air-dried by OPW staff. Galvanized and powder-coated steel, Dublin granite.
