coatstands - 'readymades' from found materials

A coatstand is a very intriguing object/tool to design. Here I had fun finding the most efficient use of the materials - the idea was to find their 'strength' and 'fit for purpose' quality, without altering or changing them. The base on the left is an old milk churn filled with beach stones, the one on the right is a office chair swivel base. The results from 'sketching in the material' will alway be haphazard or accidental, but can be playful and suprising design too.
